FAQ
Answers about using Livenue, the audio it can play, and the difference between Free and Pro. For step-by-step instructions on adding songs, see How to add music. If you can't find what you need, please contact support.
Requirements
Which devices are supported?
Livenue works on iPhone with iOS 17 or later and on iPad with iPadOS 17 or later. Both the inner and outer screens of iPhone Duo are supported. On larger screens such as iPad and the iPhone Duo inner screen, a panel for switching venues and crowd stays on screen while you play. An Android version isn't currently available.
Do I need AirPods?
No. Spatial Audio–capable earphones such as AirPods make it easier to feel the depth and width of the sound, but you can clearly hear the differences between venues and crowd effects with regular earphones, headphones, or speakers too.
Can I play in the background?
Yes. Playback continues while you use other apps or when the screen is locked, and you can control it from the Lock Screen or Control Center.
Adding & Playing Songs
How do I play songs from my device's music library?
There's nothing to import. Switch the Library screen to "Music," and the songs on your device appear as they are. Browse by song, album, artist, or playlist, and tap a song to play it right away. No copies are made in the app.
Audio files in Files or iCloud Drive can be imported with the + button at the top right of the Library. You can also add songs via AirDrop or the “Livenue” folder (see the next question and How to add music).
Can I send songs via AirDrop or from my computer?
Yes, and it's free.
- AirDrop an audio file to Livenue, or choose Livenue from another app's share menu, and it's added automatically
- From a computer, select your iPhone or iPad in Finder on a Mac or in the Apple Devices app on Windows, and drop audio files into the “Livenue” folder under Files (steps)
- In the Files app on iPhone or iPad, the same folder is “Livenue” under “On My iPhone” (“On My iPad” on iPad). Files in subfolders are imported too
Files that are the same as a song already in Music are skipped so the song isn't listed twice.
What happens to files in the “Livenue” folder?
They aren't copied. Livenue plays each file right where it is in the folder, and the file stays there after it's added.
- Deleting a song in the app also deletes its file from the “Livenue” folder (you'll be asked to confirm first)
- If you delete a file in Finder or Files, the song stays in the list and shows that its file can't be found
- Renaming a file or moving it within the folder keeps it as the same song
- Files received via AirDrop go into the “AirDrop” folder inside the “Livenue” folder
Can I use songs from my Apple Music subscription?
No. Songs streamed through subscriptions such as Apple Music are protected by DRM (copy protection), and this app can't handle them, either technically or under the terms of service.
You can play DRM-free audio saved on your device, such as:
- Songs purchased from the iTunes Store and downloaded to your device
- Songs ripped from CDs on a computer
- Unprotected songs synced from a computer
- Audio files saved in Files or iCloud Drive
Which file formats are supported?
mp3 / m4a / aac / wav / aiff / caf / flac. Each file is checked with the actual playback engine when you import it, and files that can't be played aren't added.
Can I add songs from Google Drive or Dropbox shared links?
Yes, with "Add from URL" in Livenue Pro. Tap + at the top right of the Library, choose "Add from URL," paste a shared link, and tap Check to see the file name and size. Tap Download to start importing.
- Supported links: Google Drive and Dropbox shared links, and direct links to audio files that start with https
- Up to 4 GB per file, in the same formats as importing from Files
- Downloads continue in the background, and you can keep using the app. Check progress under "Add from URL" in the Library
- Files download directly between your device and the linked service. They never pass through the developer's servers
If you see "The file isn't shared publicly," set the link's sharing to "Anyone with the link" and try again.
Which links don't work with "Add from URL"?
The following links can't be added:
- Links to shared folders (enter a link to each file instead)
- OneDrive, iCloud Drive, Box, GigaFile, WeTransfer, firestorage, MEGA, and Dropbox Transfer links — save the file to your device or Files first, then add it with "Choose from Files"
- Links to streaming services such as YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify, and Apple Music
- Links that start with http, and local addresses such as those on your home network
I don't want to download large files over cellular
Turn on "Large Files over Wi-Fi Only" under "Add from URL" in Settings. Files over 500 MB (including files of unknown size) will then download only while you're connected to Wi-Fi. It's off by default.
A song in my music library doesn't appear in the list
Songs that can't be played are hidden by default. Tap "… songs hidden" at the bottom of the list to show them and see why.
Also check the following:
- Whether the song is downloaded to your device (songs in the cloud must be downloaded)
- Whether the song is DRM-protected or from a streaming subscription
- Whether access to Media & Apple Music is allowed in Settings
If that doesn't help, contact support and tell us where the song came from (purchased, ripped from CD, or a file).
Does the app make copies of my songs?
No. Songs in Music are read directly from your device's library each time they play, so they don't take up storage twice and there's nothing to manage in the app.
Audio files imported from Files (the + button) or with “Add from URL” are copied into the app, so they keep playing even if you move or delete the original. Files added via AirDrop or the “Livenue” folder aren't copied; Livenue plays them right where they are in the folder.
Are my songs uploaded anywhere?
No. Loading, analysis, and audio processing all happen on your device, and your song data and library contents are never sent to an external server. For details, see the Privacy Policy.
Live Experience
How do the venues differ?
There are four venues—Hall, Arena, Dome, and Stadium—each with its own reverb, stage width, and sense of being surrounded by the crowd.
- Hall — The natural reverb of a concert hall
- Arena — A wide, spacious sound like a seat in the middle of an arena
- Dome — A grand, enveloping sound like a vast dome
- Stadium — An open sound like a large open-air stadium
Can I turn off or reduce the cheering and applause?
Yes. You can set the crowd level to OFF, Small, Standard, or Big. With OFF, you hear only the sound of the venue. You can also change how the crowd reacts with the show style (Auto, Standard Live, Dome Pop, or Ballad).
What is "analysis"?
It analyzes how a song's energy changes on your device, so cheers and applause react naturally to choruses, endings, and more. It runs automatically in the background the first time you play a song, with no waiting. Results are stored only on your device and can be deleted anytime in Settings.
How is setlist playback different from a regular playlist?
It adds the pause you'd hear at a real show. In Live Mode with the crowd set to anything but OFF, applause rises from the audience with the venue's reverb as each song ends, and the next song begins as it fades. The bigger the crowd, the longer the pause between songs.
Saving setlists and continuous live playback are part of Livenue Pro.
Free & Pro
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Browsing and searching your device's music library, regular playback, and importing from Files, AirDrop, or the “Livenue” folder are all available for free. Live playback in the Arena venue (Live Mode) with cheering and applause is also free, with no limit on songs.
The one-time "Livenue Pro" purchase unlocks the live experiences that Livenue adds on top:
- All venues: Hall, Dome, and Stadium
- Saving setlists and continuous live playback
- Adding audio from Google Drive and Dropbox shared links (Add from URL)
Can I try the Pro venues before buying?
Yes. While a song is playing, select Hall, Dome, or Stadium to hear the song in that venue for 30 seconds. During the preview, you can switch back and forth with Arena as often as you like to compare them at the same point in the same song.
After 30 seconds, playback switches back to Arena. You can preview as many times as you like. If Live Mode is off, it turns on when the preview starts.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. It's a one-time purchase that you can use forever, with no recurring payments. You can check the price on the Pro screen in the app or on the App Store.
What happens to Pro when I change devices?
If you're signed in with the same Apple Account, you can restore it for free on your new device from Settings > Pro, or with "Restore Purchases" on the Pro screen.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple, so the developer can't process them. Please request one through Apple's Report a Problem.
Privacy
What information does the app collect?
To improve quality, we collect usage data linked to a pseudonymous per-install identifier, along with crash reports to fix bugs. No account is required, and there are no ads or tracking. Your song data and library contents are never sent. For details, see the Privacy Policy.
Try it free with Arena
Turn the songs you already own into a live venue sound. Arena is free, with no limit on songs.
